The Ark, a non-profit organization, serves low-income, working families in Athens, Georgia. For the past four years, The Ark has held an “Adopt-a-Mom” campaign for Mother’s Day. For a $25 dollar donation, sponsors can choose the name of the mom from a list found on The Ark’s website. Local vendors donate flowers and cards for the mom’s, allowing The Ark to place the entire donated amount into a single mothers’ fund that is used throughout the year to help moms in need with their financial difficulties.adopt_a_mom_today_170504_04_1349c52c18733adccf96cd875fd599ba.today-inline-large

Each mom will receive a fresh flower bouquet and a handwritten card. Mom’s are being adopted fast, so jump on this! Not to worry, however, according to their website The Ark will still accept donations to their Single Working Mother’s Fund “which helps single working moms year-round with rent and utilities when facing an eviction or disconnection due to a loss of income or unexpected expense beyond their control.”

Consider not only helping a mother celebrate Mother’s Day but also helping moms throughout the year. Stephanie Cockfield, a financial education director at the Ark, said “what we’re about is empowering people and wanting them to know how special they are. It takes a lot to come into an agency and ask for assistance…and that tugs at our hearts and makes us want to let them know we see what they’re doing and we want to show them they are not alone.”
