Karley and Sam – How We Got To I Do

Karley & Sam – Wedding Highlight from Bowen Films on Vimeo.

Say hello to Karley Colter and Sam Graham. They celebrated their wedding at The Belvedere on Saturday, January 28, 2017. Sometimes, a couple becomes less like a client and more like a friend. Karley, Sam & Teagan charmed us from the second they walked through the door! Their desire to make their Big Day 100% “Karley & Sam” meant that their guests were spoiled with personal touches like a soup bar (they love soup, like REALLY love it!) and a custom cocktail menu. Since both bride & groom are well-loved beverage reps in the area, the whole Owl Bar crew was also showered with (especially Jager) swag. Who else would schedule a happy hour for their vendors ahead of time for everyone to get to know each other??!! It was at the Owl Bar, of course. At the end of the night, their wedding was truly one of the most FUN parties we’ll ever have.

Learn more as Karley & Sam share their story of how they got to “I do.”

How did you meet?karley 4

Karley: How did you meet? We met at work, we’re both in the liquor industry. We were setting up for a special event at the 2013 Preakness Stakes in Baltimore; However, I’m sure we crossed paths multiple times in the past. Sam is from Bowie, MD, I’m from Crofton, MD. Both neighboring towns but in 2 separate counties Anne Arundel and Prince Georges. We both grew up in these towns since 1992, exact same age and have identified many mutual friends and timed we were in the same place at the same time, but never officially met until Preakness 2013.

What was your first impression?

Karley: I thought Sam was very attractive and very intelligent, however, his actual voice made him sound not so intelligent (lol)! We worked for companies who had a partnership and I didn’t want to get involved with someone at work.

Sam: I thought she was beautiful, influential and smart for her to be in the position that she was in her career.

When did you know he was the one?

karley 2Karley: I knew Sam was the one when I was 100% myself – he came over my house early on in the friendship… I didn’t have any makeup on, in sweats and I’m sure my hair wasn’t even brushed. We had no filters with one another, everything was 100% real, genuine and open from the start. Everything just “felt right.”
Sam: It was the realness we had with one another and everything we were together. We’re best friends.

How Sam proposed….

Karley: In the kitchen. it was perfect. I didn’t want anything big. We both love to cook, it’s our favorite place in our home.

The highs and lows of the engagement period….karley 3

Karley: Everything was pretty good the entire time, we communicated and we were on the same page. I really enjoyed my bridal shower, It was a beautiful day and we had it at my Nana’s house, the same place my mother had her bridal shower. The engagement party was also a lot of fun, a wonderful day, good turn out, Sam and I cooked for everyone!. As for lows, we took a trip to DR (Dominican Republic) over the summer and got into a bit of an incident; however, it was an incident that brought us both closer together and made us stronger in our relationship. Took us to a new level.

Choosing the Belvedere….

Karley: Sam and I loved it. We loved the classy, historic feel of the venue. We wanted everything to be in one place and the Belvedere was able to provide that for us. More importantly, staff was incredible to work with.

The biggest surprise (for better, for worse…) of your wedding day:karley 1

Karley: The biggest surprise was the creative, incredible, maid of honor speech from my best friend in the entire world, Kiera Connolly. She had beautiful words, good jokes and spoke about one of our best projects from high school that we always laugh about it… long story short she ended it with a rap and it was amazing! She’s my best mate in the entire world.

Advice to other brides….

Karley: It’s not all about both of you as a couple- it’s really about everyone coming together who made the both of you into the people who you are today- these are the people who led you to the path to one another. Don’t forget to celebrate everyone else. Think of creative ways to honor the close family and friends who have passed away, those who also help mold you into the people you are today and couldn’t be there. Also, remember if everyone else is having fun, you’re having fun too!karley 6

Life as a married couple is…

Karley: Not much different as before we got married! All is great!
